The Jamboree grew from the region’s musicians, dancers, craftsmen, churches and families. Competition gives the event structure; offstage picking, reunions and younger performers studying elders reveal the deeper continuity.

Notice phrasing, rhythm, repertoire and the different demands of dance and instrumental categories. Traditional does not mean static: living music survives because people learn it, argue about it and perform it again.

Ask who made an object, what material it uses and how the technique was learned. The craft area is part of the cultural record, not filler between performances.
