Center Hill Lake is not a compact resort loop. Long arms, steep ridges and winding roads separate places that look close across the water. A rental can be “near the lake” yet require a meaningful drive to a marina, grocery store or developed swim area.

This is the strongest all-purpose base for many first visits: Hurricane Marina is the obvious boating anchor, Smithville handles groceries and practical errands, and the western side works well for Puckett Point, local meals and several waterfall directions.

Expect rural, curving roads. Properties near the marina may feel active in peak season; wooded rentals set back from the water can feel much quieter while keeping marina and town logistics manageable.

Mixed groups, first visits, Hurricane boat rentals, groceries and varied day trips.

Smithville offers the most practical supply run on this side; stock up before the final rural roads.

The Edgar Evins and Lancaster side makes sense when the state park, Center Hill Marina, the dam area or Interstate 40 shapes the weekend. It can work well for visitors combining lake time with Cookeville or the Appalachian Center for Craft.

A state-park or marina-oriented stay can reduce water-day friction while increasing the drive to Smithville, western-lake access and some waterfall routes.

Edgar Evins, dam-area boating, Cookeville-side plans and an I-40 arrival.

Less convenient for repeated Smithville, Hurricane or western-lake outings.

Still rural; do not assume the interstate approach continues to the front door.

Sligo Marina and Four Seasons can suit visitors who want the stay organized around a specific marina, slip or lake service rather than town. The reward is a more water-led rhythm; the cost can be fewer nearby errands and a longer restaurant or grocery run.

Verify seasonal food service, fuel, rental availability and guest access directly with the marina. A marina name is not a guarantee that every service operates on your dates.

The Pates Ford side is a deliberate choice, strongest when Pates Ford Marina, the southern lake or a Sparta-oriented itinerary is the reason for the trip. It can feel quiet and removed from busier approaches.

That same remoteness is a tradeoff for groceries, broad restaurant choice and outings around Smithville, Cookeville or the northern lake. Confirm marina operations and the road from the property before booking.

Floating Mill and Hurricane Marina share the Floating Mill Road approach near Silver Point. Consider this corridor for a campground or day-use plan and Hurricane boating, rather than treating Floating Mill as a separate dam-side lodging region. Confirm the specific campground or day-use entrance; a marina reservation does not grant campground access.

It is not a universal center point. If most meals, friends or activities are west of the lake, repeated road time will outweigh the apparent centrality on a map.
