Verify the work requirements
Ask about measured internet, workspace ergonomics, cellular backup and outage procedures. Test the VPN and critical software before the first meeting. Fast advertised service does not eliminate regional weather or power risk.
Laptop · Charger · Headset · Adapter
Bring the equipment that protects focus
Bring every proprietary charger and adapter, a headset for calls and any equipment that cannot be replaced locally. A laptop stand, compact keyboard and mouse can matter more than another leisure gadget.
Deep work · Calls · Shutdown
Work a smaller, clearer day
Choose one or two serious outputs, group calls and set a visible shutdown time. Trying to produce an ordinary office day and a full vacation day usually damages both.
Morning focus · Outdoor reset · Evening
Use the setting as a boundary
Work during the hours when you are sharp, then step outside without a screen. Use one short walk, shoreline visit or meal as a true transition. Do not move the laptop from the desk to the deck and call that recovery.
High-stakes meeting · Confidentiality · Care duties
Know when this is the wrong trip
If uninterrupted infrastructure, controlled acoustics or immediate technical support is essential, stay in the normal workplace. A workcation should absorb ordinary variability, not gamble a consequential event.
